Citizen's Insurance approved to depopulate another 125,000 policies

Citizen's Insurance, Florida's insurance of last resort, was approved to transfer another 125,000 policies to 4 other insurance providers namely, Slide Insurance, Florida Peninsula Insurance, Edison Insurance, and U.S. Coastal Property and Casualty Insurance the end of October 2023. Citizens efforts to reduce their policies started a couple of months ago when then moved 100,000 policies to other providers. This effort will move another 125,000 policies. If you are insured by Citizen's, you should receive a letter in the mail explaining the switch.

Hometown Heroes Loan Program is Back with $36,000,000!

Florida Housing announced they have granted another $36,000,000 to the Hometown Hero Loan Program. This will be the 3rd funding to this successful program. The funds go quickly so act now if you missed the last 2 fundings. Another funding is not expected until sometime in 2024. These funds become available 11/6/2023 and are expected to last maybe 30 days before the funds are depleted.

This program benefits first time homeowners as well as first responders to purchase a home in Florida with down payment and closing cost assistance as long as your employer is in Florida.

I want to buy a home. But the interest rates make my payments higher than I want to spend.

It is true. Interest rates are no longer under 3%. They are typically over 7% now. If you have a good memory, you will remember rates over 13% in years gone by. I hope we do not hit those interest rates again.

There are several options to consider as you look to buy a home to offset the higher interest rates today. The first one that comes to mind is to ask the seller to buy down your interest rate. This can be accomplished by asking them to pay $5,000 to $10,000 towards lowering your interest rate instead of reducing their purchase price. Check with your lender to confirm. I think you will find that buying your interest rate will reduce your monthly payment more than reducing the purcha...

Have you received an Insurance Letter from Citizens?

Over the last few weeks, Citizens Insurance has sent out 300,000 letters to some of their customers offering private insurance as an alternative to continuing with Citizens Insurance. Citizens is considered Florida’s Insurer of Last Resort. This effort is to reduce the number of policy holders by Citizens.

If the private insurance offered is within 20% of Citizens and you do not contact Citizens by 10/10, you will be switched to the new insurance provider. Citizens will not renew your policy.
